The works should be completed within 6 months (towards the end of 2021) and then work can begin for the construction of the actual cycle path that will lead cyclists safely to the village of Carnia.

Currently the cycle path stops near the old station of Moggio Udinese forcing cyclists to cycle for about 4 kilometers on the busy state road (SS13) and to cross the dangerous junction with the regional road that leads to Tolmezzo.

The conversion of this section of the former Pontebbana railway into a cycle path, which involves passing through 3 railway tunnels, a rockfall tunnel and overcoming some bridges, will make pedaling in the final stretch of the Canale del Ferro much more pleasant and safe. After the hamlet of Carnia, further works are planned to bring cyclists safely to the medieval village of Venzone.
